Tamas Pal Kiss hopes to continue in Auto GP

This year Tamas Pal Kiss debuted in Auto GP in great style

Auto GP - Virtuosi UK - Tamas Pal KissThe Hungarian driver joined to the championship at his home round in Hungary and scored two 5th place finishes for MLR71.

It was his very first time behind the wheel of an Auto GP car. Then he was drafted by Zele Racing for the next round and finished on the podium with the Austrian squad in Silverstone. Then again, at the Nurburgring and Mugello, he raced for Ibiza Racing Team, and at Brno he was once again with Zele to take the 5th spot in the Drivers’ Championship. Throughout the season, he collected 99 points with 4 different teams, and he was the top-ranked driver among those who had not entered all the races. In addition to that, he was the only man in the field to score points in every single race he entered.

So it has turned out to be an unexpectedly good season for the former GP3 race winner, who had found himself without a place in a major championship at the start of the year. Auto GP didn’t let the Hungarian driver’s talent disappear and provided him with the best possible chance to showcase his skills. He was a kind of wandering wonder-maker, a popular Jolly Joker between the Auto GP teams this 2013 season, but he would rather prefer to have a full-time opportunity for next year. One of his greatest chances could be British squad Virtuosi Racing UK, a team he successfully joined in the postseason Jerez test. He was at his first drive with them, but he proved quick straight out of the box and took 1st place on the timesheets in all 3 sessions he completed during the two days. It was a consistent result for both the team and the driver and maybe a perfect beginning for a possible and successful cooperation in the future.

”It was a great opportunity for me to drive and gain some more knowledge and experiences from the Auto GP car, so thank you to the team” – commented Tamas on the Jerez test. ”Auto GP is the championship where I want to continue my career next year and I had a lot of fun this year while driving these powerful cars. The field is also strong, so it is a great chance for young drivers to improve their skills. It is always nice to be at the top, so this Jerez test was a great moment both for me and the team. I think Virtuosi Racing UK is a fantastic team, their Engineers and Mechanics are very professional”.

How do you feel after having tested with Virtuosi UK in Jerez, setting the fastest time?

“I was really surprised with the performance we had. I know they are very professional and I was quite confident in the car already at the end of this season. Honestly from the first laps I could tell and feel we have everything what it needs to be on the top. We could work well together and found some important setting which are very promising. As always it is great to show what you can really do”.

How do you judge the level of drivers seen in Jerez testing?

“The complete frontrunners pack were there on day 2 morning, when the track was the quickest. We could beat them and I remember how hard it was to catch them in the season. So it was definitely a good and strong showing. I believe it is only the beginning”.

What are your plans for next season?

“Obviously after achieving great results this season I am aiming a full season for 2014 in Auto GP. It would be great to stay with a team like Virtuosi Racing and join our experiences to fight for the championship. I am still in search of sponsors and nowadays is very difficult to raise enough of them. I believe I could find more people trusting my skill as Virtuosi did at the end of the year by giving me the chance to show what I can do”.

Andy Roche – Virtuosi UK: “This is a great opportunity for the team and Tamas; I am really hopeful that we can sort a deal out for 2014 and am looking forward to working with Tamas. He showed great pace and maturity in the Jerez test and I am sure in 2014 he can challenge for the championship”.
