“It’s really a great feeling winning a national championship” – Karl Wittmer
Karl would be competeing in the final two races of the season, while Nick had four races to go in his season.
Saturday started off with a qualifying that saw Karl take pole for the sixth time in seven races. The battle was simply epic between him and Mazda2 driver Norman Boyer. Lap after lap saw the two cars running nose to tail and side by side for the entire race, with Karl crossing the finish line ahead of Boyer by a mere 0.3 seconds.
Sunday’s qualify saw Karl once again take pole position for the 7th time this season. The race was almost a carbon copy of the Saturday battle with both drivers constantly changing positions. It was a last chance move coming out of the final corner on the final lap that propelled Karl past Boyer for his 7th win of the year, this time by a tiny margin of 0.1seconds.
“It’s really a great feeling winning a national championship in my first full year of competition and becoming the youngest ever CTCC champion is really cool.” Said Karl after his win.
Heading to Mosport, Nick’s plan was to finish as high as possible and get the most points towards moving him upwards in the championship. “We are about 25 horse power low and 300 pounds overweight, but we knew this going into the weekend. Our goal was to correct our oil problem, which seems to have been accomplished, and we picked up valuable points towards the championship.” Said Nick after his races.
Team owner Patrik Wittmer had this to say; “I am extremely proud of the weekend results. We won our 20th championship in 19 competitive years of racing. We have corrected the lubrication issues on our New Accord and the car is ready for further development. I won the team’s 19th championship last week and we hope to finish in the top 10 with the Accord after this weekend’s last event. I would really like to thank Honda Performance Development for their invaluable input throughout the year. KW Suspensions have done a fantastic job with the custom built suspension and the handling was never an issue all season long. Perry Performance has been exemplary when we needed parts throughout the season. Brakes are amongst the most important items needed in racing and Cobalt has provided us with in-depth information to come up with the perfect brake pad for our cars. Can’t wait to see how we do on the weekend at Calabogie.”
