The Rallye Baie-des-Chaleurs will take place on Saturday and Sunday.
Québec driver Antoine L’Estage (of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu) and his co-driver Nathalie Richard (of Halifax, Nova Scotia) will contest this weekend’s North American Auto Rallye Baie-des-Chaleurs, one of the continent’s most popular performance rally events.
This round, which counts towards the North America Rally Cup and the Canadian Rally Championship, has already been won by the Rockstar Energy Drink duo four times in the past. Antoine L’Estage and Nathalie Richard will now attempt to claim a fifth “Baie” victory, making a new event record.
Reigning Canadian and North American champions, Antoine L’Estage and Nathalie Richard are anxious to get back to Canadian competition after a very long break since February’s Rallye Perce-Neige, and after contesting a US event in something other than their Rockstar Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X in May. « I’m happy to be back in the Evo X after our accident in Oregon with the Lancer WRC car. We had a test session last Thursday and I quickly felt back at home behind the wheel » confides Antoine, who isn’t hiding his intentions for this weekend’s thirty-sixth edition of the Rallye Baie-des-Chaleurs : « It’s an event with a fantastic atmosphere and particularly fanatic spectators – we look forward to going back every summer. Nathalie and I have already won this rally four times, including the past two years. No driver nor co-driver have won there five times and it would be great to be in the record books of such a prestigious event » he adds.
In addition to the obvious media attention that the victory would bring, the Rockstar Energy Drink Team is looking forward to getting back in the hunt for the Canadian title. « Our goal is to win but it’s also really important for us to get back in the game after we failed to earn any points in Round 1 » specifies Nathalie Richard.
The Rallye Baie-des-Chaleurs will take place on Saturday and Sunday. The start will be at noon on Saturday in New Richmond. Twenty competitive stages make up the rally, which will end on Sunday around 4pm.
Antoine L’Estage holds five North American championship titles (2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012), five Canadian titles (2006, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012), one American title (2010), and thirty-eight overall victories in Canada and the US. Nathalie Richard holds eight overall national championship titles (2004, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012 in Canada and 2004, 2005, 2010 in the US), as well as forty-four overall rally wins on both sides of the border.
