Fastest LMP2 time for Repton developed power plant
A Zytek Nissan-engined car grabbed the LMP2 class pole position for the Le Mans 24-hours last night. In the closing seconds of final qualifying, Olivier Pla in the OAK Racing Morgan, which features a Zytek developed and serviced Nissan VK45DE engine, recorded the fastest lap in class with a time of 3mim 38.621sec.
At the chequered flag, three of the top six in the LMP2 category were powered by the 4.5-litre Zytek Nissan V8 units.
The team of Olivier Pla, David Heinemeier Hanson and Alex Brundle will start tomorrow’s race from ninth place overall on the grid. Third in the 22-strong LMP2 category was one of Zytek’s own Z11SN chassis, the Jota Sport car of Lucas Luhr, Oliver Turvey and Simon Dolan, following a quick lap by Oliver in the final hour. Another Zytek Nissan-engined Morgan the KCMG entry, lies in sixth place in class.
Frenchman, Olivier Pla is no stranger to success with Zytek. In 2009 he won the Le Mans Series drivers’ championship with Miguel Amaral driving a Quifel ASM-entered Zytek Z09S/2.
Said Operations Director John Manchester, “This is an excellent achievement and is a great reward for all the hard work, which has been accomplished by everyone at Zytek Engineering.”
