CTCC salutes Bob Armstrong in Montreal

Bob Armstrong first became involved with motorsports in the late 60s

Bob Armstrong 2008-06-05_0033Racing at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve always creates special memories but this weekend will be unique for CTCC participants as they commemorate the life of Bob Armstrong who recently passed away.

He will always be remembered as a tremendous competitor on the track and a passionate worker behind the scenes. To honour him in Montreal, each car will display a decal with the number 33 which was Bob’s usual competition number.

Bob Armstrong first became involved with motorsports in the late 60s, first as a track marshal and then over time became the chief steward for a number of high profile Canadian racing series. He has graciously supported the amateur ranks of motorsports as the Chief Instructor for racing schools in Quebec and Ontario for many years. He has been a trusted advisor and director of track safety at the Canadian Grand Prix since 1990.

As a competitor, Bob has raced both sedans and formula cars and was always challenging for the lead. He is a multiple winner and champion in the Touring GT Championship which formed the basis for CTCC today. His career was capped off last fall with a podium as he won in GT Sprints for the final time.

“It is not often that you meet a person as fine as Bob,” stated John Bondar, President of CTCC. “His influence on motorsport will be present for a very long time and in his honour, we wanted to dedicate this weekend to him. Farewell my friend, we’ll miss you!”

CTCC has made a donation to Pancreatic Cancer Canada in honour of Bob’s memory.
