Utmost race tracks conditions at the Grand Prix of Valcourt
Despite the fact that there has been no significant accumulation of snow in the Eastern Township since the beginning of the year, the Grand Prix organization compensates the lack of natural fresh powder by using a snow making gun which is fed with water taken from the lake located on their land near the track. There is plenty of the white stuff to create all the moguls on the snocross track. This major water asset, added to the very cold temperatures of the last 10 days, has greatly helped in polishing off the surface of the ice oval track.
The Grand Prix organization started to work on the two major tracks, the ice oval and the snocross layout, back in January. The operation on the ice oval track was completed earlier this week, and since then, they are hard at work grooming the fully snow-covered snocross layout. Other workers are creating the Freestyle Snocross landing ramps with the snow making machines in order to finish the work for Saturday afternoon’s opening rounds of the Freestyle Snocross competition. While in that area of Circuit Yvon Duhamel complex, they are also putting the finishing touches on the two-lane drag racing track for the Friday under the lights Pro and Amateur Showdown. Admission to Friday under the lights is free of charge starting at 3:00 p.m.
“The cold temperatures of the last few weeks has enabled us to preserve the snow produced since January by our snow cannon, and to put the finishing touches on the ice surface of the Yvon Duhamel speed oval track,” said Marie-Pier Lemay, General Manager of the event. “The tracks are completed; the organizing committee and the more than 250 volunteers are ready to welcome the 350 racing teams who will be competing with the best track conditions right from day one of the Grand Prix Ski-Doo of Valcourt presented by FOX.”
