The Mercedes-powered team – holding the record for the most starts in the series – looks forward to battle for the 2013 title
Caal Racing, the manufacturer-supported team of Mercedes-Benz Italia, has always been one of the benchmarks of the Superstars International Seriessince the championship’s inception in 2004, establishing their name as a premium presence in the sport.
The Umbria-based squad could not fall short of expectations this season and fielded a Mercedes C63 AMG The 6.2-litre V8 racer develops 543 horsepower at 6800 rpm and was brought on-track by Formula 1 ace Vitantonio Liuzzi, who left a strong impression at the end of an highly-exciting season. The Italian-based Star Driver stayed in the hunt for the SUPERSTARS INTERNATIONAL SERIES title until the very last race of the season.
Liuzzi cruised to two wins at Monza and at the Hungaroring and collected six more podium finishes on the way. His contribution proved key as Caal Racing ended up in second-place in the teams’ standings, right behind Team BMW Dinamic. In addition to Liuzzi, Corrado Canneori and his team relied on the services of experienced Max Mugelli, Luigi Ferrara (who had ended up as a runner-up in 2011) and Andrea Bacci.
“It’s been a positive year – told Caal Racing Team Manager Canneori – I’m just a little disappointed to have just barely missed the title with Liuzzi, especially because we also came inch-close last season with Ferrara. However, we won’t back down. We’re looking forward to line-up in 2013 with an even more competitive package and I hope it will finally be our year. We’re still finalizing our plans but SUPERSTARS is in our history and we hope to field a third car for next year…”
