Superstars - Johan KrsitofferssonSuperstars logoJohan Kristoffersson couldn’t have asked for more. After having left a strong impression in terms of determination and professionalism, the eagle-eyed Swede managed to clinch titles in both the Superstars International Series and the Italian Superstars championship.

Driving an Audi RS5 for Audi Sport KMS, he relied on one of the fastest cars in the series and provided his team with spectacular performances. As he came to the final round at Pergusa in the lead and with a 10-point margin, a great battle was set with the manufacturer-supported Mercedes C63 AMG of Vitantonio Liuzzi. Despite two contacts put both of them out of contention, a slight advantage in points handed the young Swede the title.

How does it feel to be the 2012 SUPERSTARS champion?

Absolutely fantastic! It’s been a very tough season from the start at Monza. The level of the championship is very high. But we have been working so hard for this throughout the whole season, ending up on top makes me so happy and rewards all the people that supports me. I’m also very proud to win with the Audi brand. I want thank the mechanics, as they have been working incredibly hard on my car, and everyone who supported me.

What was your first thought when Caldarola touched you during Race 2?

I was not prepared before the hit because I didn’t see him in the mirror. After the first hit, on the way into the barrier, I thought was over. The minutes after I was just happy I wasn’t injured and thought about the title…

You also won the “Rookie of the Year” contest and the 100.000€ bonus so will we see you next year in SUPERSTARS?

It would be very nice to come back to Superstars 2013, but I haven’t decided anything for next year. There are a few different options I’m looking at now so we’ll see what happens during the next months.

How did you celebrate your titles?

It was a very tough emotional weekend for me. I was really tired, physically and mentally, so for me it was an early night. But as my team in every situation gives 100%, they had late Sunday evening… Personally I’ll celebrate when I’m back in Sweden.

What will you do during the off-season?

I’ve already some tests schedule. In addition to that, I’m working daily at our family company, Kristoffersson Motorsport. But I’ll find some time for cross country skiing and holiday as a preparation for racing season 2013.

How’s the final balance for the 2012 season?

It’s been an incredible season for me, as I was competing in 3 different championship with 3 different cars and won 5 out of 5 championships! I’ve learned a lot from racing outside Sweden. Superstars was a very big challenge, with all those famous and talented drivers and many really good teams. As a 23-year-old from Sweden, coming to big, famous and popular racetracks with lots of history is a fantastic feeling and really motivating.
