« We have clearly improved our base time compared to last year [eleventh position]. It is also very remarkable that my co-driver, Marc Bouchard, was participating in this rally for the very first time. We were well prepared, that’s the secret. Remaining calm, alert, attentive but especially strategic, we kept this pace all week and it worked », shares with enthusiasm the journalist and automobile chronicler.

In itself, the rally is a momentum competition. However, the drivers must also comply with the speed limits, respect the set time assigned for each leg [50 legs, 2,200 km], avoid the penalties and qualify the car in the leading group. This year, more road and environmental challenges were added: the lack of sleep combined with unfavourable weather (Hurricane Leslie) provoked additional mental and physical stresses in this already dangerous race.

« We worked very hard and the last two days were quite difficult, especially since each leg became more complex as the week progressed. For us, the most important was to complete the TARGA. A fourth place finish was unexpected, especially with the type of car we had, without any modifications and the original suspension », explains Jacques Deshaies.

The KIA Canada directing managers were present for our arrival; they are enthusiastic about the performance level and professional representation of their company accomplished by the two drivers. Jacques Deshaies has already been offered to return for next year’s race and renew the partnership for the 2013 TARGA (September 14th to 21st, 2013) edition, with a higher performance competitive car.

This third participation generates a new challenge for Jacques Deshaies and his team, who are aiming for nothing less than a podium, and the Gold Plate, awarded to competitors that complete each leg within the set time limits for the third year.
