Ranger took the lead from J.R. Fitzpatrick on Turn 3 of Lap 10 of the 42-lap event around the 1.53-mile course and cruised to a win by 2.096 seconds over L.P. Dumoulin.

Fitzpatrick finished third, followed by Robin Buck. Points leader D.J. Kennington had his five-race win streak ended with a fifth-place finish.

J.F. Dumoulin was sixth, followed by Scott Steckly, Ron Beauchamp Jr., Jeff Lapcevich and Isabelle Tremblay.

In the championship point standings, Kennington saw his lead shrink a little to 37 points over Ranger with Steckly 43 points back in third.

TOP FIVE FOR KENNINGTON IN CASTROL EDGE DODGE

No racer in any series has been hotter than St. Thomas, ON driver DJ Kennington who’d put up five consecutive victories in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series heading into the event this past weekend at the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivieres.  While the winning streak did come to an end, Kennington put up another solid result in the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge and maintained his overall lead in the championship standings.

Right from the start of practice Kennington went into the weekend with a plan.  “It’s so tough matching up against some of the road racers we just wanted to be consistent and have a solid weekend” said Kennington.

The #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team worked hard to give Kennington a top performing car and succeeded.  Kennington would qualify fifth for the main event Sunday afternoon.

Just prior to the start of the race a huge downpour stopped proceedings.  Teams covered the cars and everyone waited out the rain.  Following a two hour delay, all the teams switched to rain tires and no one was sure what to expect.  “It was pretty wet on track and we hadn’t run in the rain all weekend” said Kennington.  “I wanted to stay up near the front and out of traffic” he added.

Kennington did just that in the early going.  While he did slip back a position he had no trouble maintaining touch with the front runners.  “There was plenty of action with the first few cars so I just tried to stay close if something happened” said Kennington.

In the late stages Kennington began pushing the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge a little harder and regained his top five position, one he would hold onto until the end of the race.  “That really was our goal for this event” said Kennington.  “There are a couple of guys who are specialists and it’s nice to stay in the hunt with them, but we had our eye on the big picture this week” he stated.

While Kennington’s winning streak stops at five, with the fifth place finish he remains first overall in the championship standings, 37 points ahead of second position.  “We’ll be itching for another win before the season is over” said the driver but we’re also looking for another championship”.

DJ Kennington and the #17 Castrol Edge Dodge team will be back in action August 17 & 18 as part of the NASCAR Nationwide weekend at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, QC.

DOWLER & EMCO DODGE TEAM BATTLE THE BRAKES

Alberta’s Noel Dowler and the #5 EMCO Dodge team were back in action this past weekend for round number eight of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series at the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivieres. However battling braking issues and dodging the rain drops left the team frustrated with their performance.

Right from the beginning of the weekend the #5 EMCO Dodge wasn’t where the team needed it to be. “It was a handful right from the start of practice” said Dowler. “The whole team worked really hard to chase down a bunch of issues, the biggest one was the braking system” he added.

Qualifying would not go any better for the #5 EMCO Dodge team as Dowler also had transmission problems and spun the car during his qualifying session. “We weren’t sure if we could make the repairs but after a closer look everybody dug in again and got it done” said the driver.

Starting the race from the 19th spot on the grid was delayed on Sunday due to heavy rain showers in the area forcing a two hour delay. Once the day got started unfortunately the #5 EMCO Dodge team couldn’t really fare any better. “We battled the same brake troubles in the race” said Dowler. “It was really frustrating and I felt bad for all the guys who worked so hard just to get the car ready” he stated.

Despite the difficult circumstances Dowler soldiered on as best he could to complete the race. Even with all the issues the #5 EMCO Dodge team battled Dowler still came across the finish line in the top twenty. “I can’t like, I’m happy this one is behind us” said Dowler. “We’ve got a new car that we’re going to roll out. We’ll have it race ready for Montreal and we believe that will get us going in the right direction. I have to thank the team for all their hard work this weekend. They changed everything but the driver twice in this car trying to improve it, but we just didn’t quite get there” he added.

The 2012 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series returns to Montreal, QC on August 17 & 18 as part of the NASCAR Nationwide weekend at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. The series features 12 events from coast to coast including races during the Edmonton Indy weekend and the NASCAR Nationwide event in Montreal. BUCK BATTLES THROUGH ADVERSITY AT TROIS-RIVIERES

Robin Buck and the #66 Quaker State Dodge team were the defending race champions at the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivieres in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series. Last years race had rain showers throughout the event. This year rain was so heavy it postponed the start of the event and Buck battled several obstacles to score a top five result.

The weekend began on a sour note for Buck who was feeling ill on the Friday the scheduled Saturday practice. “It turned out to be food poisoning” explained Buck. “I was up most of the night and tried to rest most of the day Saturday when I wasn’t in the car” he added.

That left the preparations of the #66 Quaker State Dodge in the hands of Crew Chief Randy Gray who along with the rest of the team worked to set up the car to Bucks liking. “Randy and the guys did a good job as always, they made the day as easy as possible for me so I could just focus on practice and qualifying” said Buck. He would post the ninth fastest time.

A Saturday night trip to hospital for IV with fluids Buck was feeling better race day and had high hopes for the #66 Quaker State Dodge. Those hopes were put on hold when torrential rains stopped the proceedings and forced a two hour rain delay.

Once the action began with all competitors on rain tires Buck showed his skill and determination moving the #66 Quaker State Dodge forward in the early going. “I was feeling better and the car was handling really well”.

Continuing to press Buck maintained contact with the front runners and settled into fourth position. In the closing laps of the race the fight for position intensified. “I was hoping to grab a podium spot but I knew that the cars ahead of me are fighting for a championship and I wanted to respect that” explained Buck. “I stayed close in case anything happened but couldn’t gain another position”.

Buck would take the checkered flag in the #66 Quaker State Dodge in fourth and the entire team could be proud of their efforts in a very trying weekend. “I wasn’t feeling my best so it was tough to fight in such an intense race, I have to thank the team for doing such a wonderful job with everything, we’re pretty pleased with this result considering the circumstances” he added.

Robin Buck will compete in all five road course races on the 2012 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Schedule. The final road course race of the season is at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal as part of the NASCAR Nationwide weekend August 17 & 18. Race fans will be able to watch all of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series events in High Definition on TSN. Check local listings for times.

TOP TEN FOR ISABELLE TREMBLAY, MARTIN ROY FIGHTS TO THE FINISH

There was plenty of excitement entering the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race at the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivieres. Martin Roy posted three consecutive top ten results in the #90 Veloce/Gamache Truck Centre Dodge during the recent western swing for the series. And teammate Isabelle Tremblay also returned to competition in the #07 Frank Lyman Design Dodge to compete in the historic event. While Tremblay posted her first top ten finish of the season, Roy had a mechanical issue tarnish his result.

Both drivers worked very hard in practice beginning with a new race set up Crew Chief Mario Gosselin wanted to test. The results were positive as both drivers had very strong cars. Roy would qualify the #90 car seventh while Tremblay would roll off 19th for the feature race Sunday afternoon.

A downpour just before the start of the event delayed the race two hours. Teams switched to rain tires before beginning the event on the damp track.

Once underway Roy was pushing his #90 Veloce/Gamache Truck Centre Dodge looking to move into the top five. Sadly after only a handful of laps he was forced to make a stop for repairs. “We had a problem with a broken axle” said Roy. “It’s really too bad because the car was very fast. When the team made repairs and I got back out I was careful but my speed was right there with the leaders” he added.

Isabelle Tremblay’s day in the #07 Frank Lyman Design Dodge would feature better results. Proceeding cautiously at first in the damp conditions Tremblay began to get comfortable and then started moving forward in the field. “I took it easy at first looking after the car. I knew that the guys up front would battle hard and wanted to be sure to have the car to fight at the end of the race” explained Tremblay. “The car the team gave me to work with was fantastic. They were encouraging me to take my time and find the line I want to use and I was able to get around a lot of cars” she added.

Tremblay’s approached paid huge dividends. She continued to move the #07 Frank Lyman Design Dodge in the field throughout the race. Showing poise when the cars were bunched up for a final race restart Tremblay secured a tenth place result. “Our goal was a top ten finish. We did that, we brought the car home in good shape, this feels like a podium” she said afterwards.

Another top ten result for the team gives them a boost heading into the next event at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve as part of the NASCAR Nationwide weekend August 17 & 18. “I was so moved by all the support of our families and our race fans here” said Tremblay. “I must thank Bertrand Godin for all the help he gave me looking at data and the strong encouragement. I can’t wait to get back out again in a couple of weeks”.

Though disappointed at his own finishing result, Martin Roy was very happy for his teammate. “I’m very proud of what Isabelle accomplished today” said Roy. “We plan to both be up there at the next event”.

Race fans will be able to watch the race from Trois-Rivieres on TSN2 Saturday August 11th at 9:30PM and September 5th at 10PM on RDS2. (All times Eastern).

TEAM MOPAR SCORES TOP TEN AT TROIS-RIVIERES

Ron Beauchamp Jr. earned a top ten finish at Circuit de Trois-Rivieres thanks to his strong #60 Mopar Parts/Exide Batteries/Mobil 1 Dodge and consistency behind the wheel.

Ron Beauchamp Jr. and his crew headed into Saturday’s practice flying high. His #60 Mopar Parts/Exide Batteries/Mobil 1 Dodge was quick from the start and continued to improve. After suggesting his crew make spring adjustments, Beauchamp’s car ran even better and carried him to a 6th place qualifying time.

“The crew did a great job getting the car to my liking,” Beauchamp said after practice. “I went into the race feeling like we had a really strong car.”

However on Sunday as the drivers fired up their engines at Circuit de Trois-Rivieres, a thunderstorm to put the race on standstill before the start of the initial lap. The racers were forced to wait out the storm for two hours on pit road before the JuliaWine.com 100 could resume.

Once the race kicked off, Beauchamp was off to a strong start continuing his consistent performance maintaining his position in the field. #60 ran strong throughout the contest, only encountering one minor setback midway through.

“It was a fluky thing, the car just popped out of gear and spun me around,” Beauchamp explained. “The good news is I only lost one spot but I gained it back.”

#60 continued to run strong through the remaining laps and stay inside the top ten for the entirety of the race. Beauchamp crossed the finish line in 8th place, slipping two spots from his 6th place start.

“We had a solid weekend, you can really see the improvements we’ve made all year and our program has improved,” Beauchamp said after the race. “I can’t wait to get to Montreal now knowing how good we can be. I don’t think we were outside the top ten in every session, I’m feeling good about this team.”

JASON WHITE FIGHTS HARD IN TROIS-RIVIERES

When it rains, it pours for Jason White. After waiting out a two-hour rain delay that nearly halted the JuliaWine.com 100 on Sunday at the Circuit de Trois-Rivieres, #21 endured a host of mechanical problems behind the wheel of his Bowers and Wilkins Dodge that stole his hopes for a top-ten finish.

Jason White and his crew ran into mechanical problems early on during Saturday’s practice, which teammate DJ Kennington diagnosed as gear and clutch issues after taking a lap behind the wheel of White’s Bowers & Wilkins Dodge. #21′s crew worked quickly to correct the problems before qualifying, but left White with very little seat time. He ended up qualifying 21st for Sunday’s main event.

The next day as the drivers filled the field for the race; a thunderstorm rolled in and put a red light on the race just as the cars fired their engines. Vehicles sat two hours on the pit road before the JuliaWine.com 100 resumed.

Jason White kicked off the delayed race with skill and poise, with the gear and clutch issues successfully resolved by his crew. #21 navigated his way into the top ten and cruised through a majority of the race, moving he steadily forward in the field.

“The car was so good, what a great race car we had,” White said after the race. “It was a lot of fun to drive.”

However the fun was cut short as the Bower and Wilkins Dodge started to lose power, slowing White down and hindering his progress.

“It just didn’t have the same drive,” he said. “I was worried something was wrong.”

The loss of power in his vehicle hurt #21 significantly, as he chugged along for the remainder of the race only to lose all the laps he gained and ultimately finish right where he started: 21st place.

White and his crew aren’t exactly sure of the issue that caused the power failure, but plan to overhaul the electrical and mechanical systems before the next race in Montreal.

Despite the disappointing end to Sunday, White still managed to find the silver lining: “Good news is we’ve got a fast car and we’ll be strong at the next event.”

Jason White and the #21 Dodge team will compete in the entire 2012 NCATS schedule that will take the team from coast to coast in Canada for the 12 events. Next on the schedule teams will head to Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal as part of the Nationwide weekend event. NASCAR Canadian Tire Series –n°04 Bernier Crepeau/ Bellemare/ GP3R/ Manac Dodge

Jean-Francois Dumoulin also took part in the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivières’ main event. Drivers and participants had to patiently wait due to the extreme weather, which occurred during the beginning of the race (start at 5:41 instead of 3:30).

This had no consequences for Jean-Francois Dumoulin. Leaving the starting grid in tenth place, during the first laps the Quebecer quickly gained a few positions. It is with consistence and strategic passing that he maintained his standing for the duration on the race, crossing the finish line in sixth position.

« The first laps went very well I managed to gain a few positions. The car was a slightly less adhesive. On de Calonne I hit a piece of carbon fibber that came from a car ahead of me, the engine started to overheat and I lost a lot of power. We obtained a sixth place position, in these conditions the important part was to complete the race », mentions Jean-Francois Dumoulin.

Louis-Philippe Dumoulin lead the race for several laps at the wheel of the n°47 WeatherTech Canada/Bellemare, defending his second place podium finish with tenacity and ardour against other contenders.

« We had a good start, I had good fights with the opponents. A problem arose with the brake repartition, due to the accumulation of water and sand on the track. It became difficult towards the end of the race as the back of the car swayed a lot while braking. During the last restart, I tried very hard to get the first position in corner n°1; the last pass allowed us to finish in second place. Congratulations to the team of mechanics for their work, we are all really satisfied with the results here in Trois-Rivieres », explains the international driving instructor.

THORNDYKE HAS STRONG RUN AT TROIS-RIVIERES

David Thorndyke made a satisfying comeback to the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series on Sunday at Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres for the first time since the opening race of the season.

With lots of time to prepare since their last outing, David Thorndyke and his crew felt confident and ready for the JuliaWine.com 100 on Sunday. Despite qualifying 29th after Saturday’s practice sessions behind the wheel of their Thorsons EVT Chevrolet, the team was focused on having a solid car to race, not necessarily the fastest.

“I wasn’t worried about our time,” Thorndyke explained. “I knew the car felt good and would race well.”

However the main event on Sunday suffered a setback as a lengthy rainstorm rolled in before the race could get underway. After waiting out the inclement weather on the pit road for two hours, the drivers finally lined back up on the field and fired up their engines.

But for Thorndyke and his team, the heavy rain was worrisome.

“I wasn’t sure how the car would handle with the rain tires,” #67 said. “I decided to take it easy at first.”

As Thorndyke navigated with caution, the Thorsons EVT Chevrolet held strong and he was able to work his way forward in the field.

“The car did whatever I wanted it to, I just had to adjust a little bit but the car worked really well,” Thorndyke said afterwards.

#67 steadily collected spots as the laps elapsed and eventually finished 20th, up six spots from his qualifying start.

“I’m really satisfied with our day today,” he said. “The team did a great job getting ready, the car doesn’t have a mark on it so it’s just a little maintenance before the next race. I’m excited to head to Montreal.”

David Thorndyke and the EVT Chevrolet team will return to action next August 17 & 18 during the NASCAR Nationwide weekend at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, QC.
