The series will race this upcoming season at five unique tracks
2011 Calendar features NASA National Championships at Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course, IndyCar weekend at Sonoma, and July 4th weekend at Portland International Raceway.
The Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear announced their West Coast Region 2011 schedule. The series will race this upcoming season at five unique tracks; Infineon Raceway, Thunderhill Raceway Park, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, Portland International Raceway, and Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course.
There are three very special ‘diamond’ events planned for 2011. The first one is over the July 4th weekend. The series will head up to Portland International raceway for an exclusive double header. “The track and surrounding area are beautiful, and racing there on the July 4th weekend last season was awesome.” stated Series Official Ben Hettema.
In August the series will head back to Infineon Raceway to compete on the same weekend as the IZOD IndyCar Series. “This is the premier open wheel event on the west coast. Infineon Raceway has been kind enough to offer us a slot in the schedule again, and also provide us with our own paddock area for this event.
We intend to put on a great show for the race fans just like we did in 2010,” added Hettema. The June event at Infineon will also take place on the IRL configuration so that drivers can get extra track time on this unique course prior to the INDY GP of Sonoma.
2011 is the second year that the Formula Car Challenge will be a featured class at the NASA National Championships. “We are really excited about this opportunity for our drivers,” added Hettema.
“Now the Formula Car Challenge drivers from all over the country can meet once a season and determine who the best of the best is.” The NASA National Championship attendees compete in three races to determine who should be crowned the NASA Formula Car Challenge National Champion. The NASA National Championships take place at Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course September 8-11.
